The Northport Community Band
The NCB, in its present version, is about 20 seasons old, but there has been a band activity in Northport for well over a hundred years!
The membership is made up of players from every imaginable walk of life. We have farmers, teachers, a couple of ministers, chemists, engineers, a real live rocket scientist, accountants, builders, nurses, grandmothers and grandfathers, students from area schools, college kids home on vacation, snowbirds who are only here in the summer, local merchants, lawyers, retired military, folks in the construction business, and about a dozen are retired band directors or music teachers.
The NCB has an age range in its membership from 14 to 87.
We play about a dozen services each summer, and our summer season always includes such “classics” as:
- Memorial Day Services at the Cemetery
- A “Gala” Concert – joint with the Northwestern Michigan College Band
- July 3rd and 4th Concerts (Glen Arbor) and (Northport)
- The “Fly-In” at Woolsey International Airport
- The famous Northport Dog Parade (!)
- The “Sousa” Concert – to end the summer.
Our home is located in the Northport Public School, Northport, Michigan near the tip of the little finger of Michigan, Leelanau County with Lake Michigan on the West and Grand Traverse Bay on the East.
Our indoor performance venue is the beautiful 434 seat Auditorium in the Northport Community Arts Center attached to Northport Public School. Our outdoor venue is Leelanau County and the Grand Traverse Region.
